Advent 2022: Christmas Eve [Part 5]

SUMMARY
A lot of people have the wrong view of Christianity and following Jesus. It all has to be about more than just a list of do’s and don’ts, right? Yes! However, the list of do’s and don’ts are still pretty important. Why? Think of it this way: If you realize that Jesus came to give you an abundant life and freedom from sin, you tend to see that not doing sinful things is actually in your best interest…and that Jesus truly wants the best for you when you follow Him.

Advent 2022: Peace [Part 4]

SUMMARY
In one way or another, peace is mentioned over 300 times in the Bible. In the Old Testament, it was God’s Shalom and in the New Testament it was God’s Eirēnē (Say: Eareenee). Either way, it is something that God offers us. When terror or fear strikes in the Bible, again and again you see God offering his peace…it’s something He wants us to experience and something Jesus specifically says we have because of Him. It was even announced by the angels at his birth! The question is, are you taking Him up on the peace He offers?

Advent 2022: Joy [Part 3]

SUMMARY
What comes to mind when you think of the nativity scene?  Angels? Check. Manger? (What is a manger?) Check. Animals? Check. Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus? Check.  But is that really all that was going on?  What if there was a totally different way to approach that story?  One that looks more like D-Day than it does “silent night.”  What if we thought about it like a daring raid by a savior that sees good and evil pitted against each other in an epic battle for the souls of mankind?  That would be cool, right?

Part of the beauty of Advent is that we have tangible evidence that God wants us to confidently put our faith in him. SUMMARY
Isn’t it odd that the creator of the universe would show up on earth as a helpless baby?  Why did he come at all?  What was he seeking to give his created ones?  Freedom.  Don’t skip over that too quickly.  He came to give you freedom.  Question is…freedom from what?

Life is going to regularly supply you with things that are distracting, depressing, overwhelming and divisive (and on and on and on). The question for us is this: What will we emphasize most when life is giving us more than we can handle and leaving us feeling drained or even empty? SUMMARY
A lot of our goals in life are heavily influenced by the cultural and family pressures around us. These pressures aren’t always towards what’s best for us. That is stressful…and like we talked about last week, tends to keep the focus on us. Instead, what if we left those old selfish, anxiety inducing goals behind and focused on our calling as followers of Jesus, which includes life-giving community, life-giving rest, life-giving impact on others. Listen as we discuss how our goals impact our level of satisfaction.

SUMMARY
It’s hard not to make things about us. Whether it’s in conversation, or what shows to watch, or your views, opinions, and feelings…we tend to make things about us. Here’s the thing though: you weren’t made to be the center of the universe. You can’t handle that kind of pressure! Watch for another practical way to be satisfied in a world full of selfishness and dissatisfaction.
