Made in His Image: Dignity from the Womb to the Grave [Genesis 1.4]

“Made in His Image.”  Now, there’s a phrase that can change everything.  I want you to consider for just a minute what is happening in our country.  Have you watched the news?  Been on social media?  Dared to venture into the comments section of…anything?  What we have in our culture today is a complete lack of appreciation for the fact that we are ALL created in the image of God.  If you want to get fancy, the “Image of God” in Latin is referred to as the Imago Dei. This means that humans (all of them) have inherent dignity and worth (even people you don’t like or agree with), and that every person is created with a unique purpose and destiny (including people who hate and attack you). The big idea of Imago Dei? It emphasizes the value of human life and the responsibility of humans to reflect God's character in the world. On Purpose: God Brings Life Into the Universe [Genesis 1.3]

“God said…” followed by, “and it was so.” That is the pattern you find in the creation account. There is a lot of controversy about the days of creation because of these passages. A lot of interesting and difficult questions arise: How long did it actually take? (24 hrs? Years? Millions of Years? Billions of years?) Did God create everything with the appearance of age, or was everything young and grew quickly? Did God use theistic evolution? Is the creation account a literal story or a moral one? (and on and on it goes) However, I want you to notice that phrase again: “God said…” followed by, “and it was so.”
What we see there in that phrase reveals several things about God: He’s powerful enough to create; he wanted to create; and he did create…on purpose. Rather than trying to figure out the details of the creation account, it might be better to settle into what God is saying about himself in the creation account.

Let There Be Light: Finding Hope and Purpose in Darkness [Genesis Part 1.2]

“Let there be light.” How many times have you heard someone quote that…or something like it? Dinner is served? “Let there be food!” Vacation started? “Let there be fun!” The idea that God created everything we see by the power of his words is hard to comprehend. But what do you think the opening verses of Scripture say about God? Is he just showing off? Is it science? Is it philosophy? Is it even real? These are pretty important questions that ultimately find their answer in a God who is real and who desires something pretty important: you. Knowing there is a God powerful enough to speak the universe into existence is one thing, but to know that He also wants relationship with you and gives you value and purpose and meaning is another thing altogether. Genesis: Where it all Began [Genesis 1.1]

Genesis is an amazing book, full of some of the most well-known stories in the Bible.  In it, you’ll also meet some of the most famous people of the Bible who lived through some of the most trying and difficult times.  Most importantly, though, you’ll meet the God of the Bible, the creator powerful enough to speak the universe into existence.  Understanding Genesis not only gives you clearer insight into the rest of God’s story recorded in Scripture, but it also helps you understand your own story.  Listen for an overview of one of the most famous books of all time.

This feast was celebrated 50 days, or seven weeks, after the Day of First Fruits and marked the completion of the grain harvest. Jewish tradition associates the holiday with the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. Feasts & Faith: Yom HaBikkurim - Day of Firstfruits [Part 5]

Yom HaBikkurim (Day of Firstfruits)
This feast was celebrated on the Sunday after Passover and symbolized the firstfruits of the harvest, which were to be dedicated to God. It was a very tangible reminder of the goodness and provision of God.  Christians believe that Jesus' resurrection on the third day after his death fulfilled the feast of Firstfruits, as he became the firstfruits of those who will rise from the dead.  Also, it’s a great reminder that we should offer ourselves as firstfruits to God.  Listen to explore how this holy day can help us better understand that we should always be willing to turn our best over to God and trust him with what’s next!
