This feast was celebrated on the 10th day of the seventh month and was a day of fasting and repentance. It symbolized the reconciliation of the people with God. Christians believe that the feast of Atonement was fulfilled by the death of Jesus, who became the ultimate sacrifice for sin and reconciled people with God. This feast was celebrated on the first day of the seventh month (Tishrei) and marked the start of the Jewish civil year. It was also a time of repentance and self-examination in preparation for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Christians believe that the feast of Trumpets foreshadows the second coming of Jesus and the gathering of the saints. Would you consider yourself a merciful person?  That’s something worth considering.  We don’t live in a culture that shows much mercy.  We live in a world of cancel-culture, narcissism, victimhood, entitlement, and many other factors that have convinced us everything is ultimately about…us.  Mercy doesn’t really factor into that framework.  I can’t have mercy on you if everything is about me, can I?  Jesus has a very “others” focused mindset that we must adopt if we’re his followers.  It’s odd that Jesus would have mercy on us when he literally had to pay for all of our sins!  If he shows mercy, shouldn’t we?  Listen for one last insight from Jesus on how to handle conflict and controversy in the church.

If you have an issue with someone in our church, how should you handle it?  What’s step number one?  For Jesus, it starts (as usual) with your heart.  When we feel very passionately about something or, worse, we’re hurt by someone, it’s very hard to do a solid heart check before we engage with a person.  Think about your own experience with church.  I’m sure you can think of a time where someone was hurt and things weren’t handled in a way befitting a follower of Jesus.  What about you personally?  Have you caused harm or been harmed?  Listen as we explore Jesus’ model for handling conflict and controversy in church.

Money & Peace [Part 6]

SUMMARY
Dave Ramsey likes to say this about how you spend your money: “Live like no one else now so you can live AND give like no one else later.” Here’s the cool part…later can be a few months from now, a few years from now, or years and years from now. The point? Have a plan for spending. If you want to find financial peace, you must have a plan. You cannot simply spend every cent you have on things you don’t need with zero regard for the future.
 
There are times when every cent goes toward needed bills, but if we slow down, look to the future and make a plan, we’ll find a better way forward where we experience the peace of God when it comes to our money.
To help us do this, we’re excited to introduce “pajama economics”! We’ll hear from our very own Rico and Jamie Giovanello about their journey with handling money and possessions God’s way. You won’t want to miss it, so make sure to share with someone who can benefit from this series!

SUMMARY
Here’s a popular saying: Money is the root of all evil. Is that right? Notice anything wrong with that saying? Do you happen to know where that distorted quote comes from?
 
In this episode, we’ll look at the wisdom the Apostle Paul passes on to his young protégé, Timothy regarding material wealth. Remember, Paul is a guy who experienced the feeling of having a lot, but also felt the pain of having nothing. Here’s a sneak peek: God doesn’t think money is the root of all evil. In fact, money isn’t good or evil…it’s just currency.
