Have you noticed how easy it is to both say and believe the tried-and-true saying, “Just follow your heart!” It sounds so positive and hope-filled, doesn’t it?  The problem is that our hearts can lie to us.  But why?  Well, they’re misinformed or underinformed.  They can be fueled by the emotions of the moment or the wounds of the past.  Sayings like, “just follow your heart” sound good, but they can actually be very dangerous if we don’t really examine our hearts to see what’s in there.  Listen to see what God says about what’s in our hearts and how to make sure we clean it up before we listen to it!

Have you ever wondered where resilience comes from?  Is it something inborne, or can we build up resilience over time on our own?  Is there any room for outside influences when it comes to resilience?  I know for me (Pastor Kyle), I tend to focus on building my own resilience.  However, this only gets me so far.  I must admit, there’s only so much I can do.  At the end of the day, I’m not invincible, and I just can’t prepare for every unknown.  I have found that I am, unfortunately, just a jar of clay.  Thankfully, I have a hidden superpower.  Listen to talk about yours, and how you too can build resilience that goes way beyond your strength. Warning: it might not be something that comes easy or natural!

How can our souls be tired, but still find peace? It’s about leaning into God and asking for His strength and only in Him. By doing that, we find relief for our souls. It’s a hard way to think, but it is what our souls need - to dive deep with God.

Story is how we orient ourselves in the world.  Story is how we figure things out, bring order and meaning to the events around us.  The story we hold to at any given time shapes our perceptions, hopes, and expectations; it give us a place to stand.  In this mad hour on the earth, what story are you telling yourself - or letting others tell you?  What defines you?  The news?  Social Media? Your past? Politics or the economy?  Think of all the stories that have come and gone in history.  Stories that people thought would endure forever, only to be forgotten and replaced by something else.  Is there a better story?  How can we build resilience by focusing on the right story and building our strength from there?  How do we tap into God’s story and receive his strength? Listen to explore how Jesus can specifically meet you right now to give you the strength that prevails!

Pastor Kyle covers a big topic, Immigration, and how Christians should respond to this many times, complicate issue. Ultimately, people matter. People who Jesus died on the cross for to save. As Christians, we need to use Jesus as our ethic guideline.
Prayerfully seek God about how you should treat people like this that might come into your town. The world changed because people faithfully and bravely applied their faith to difficult situations.

This week, we’ll begin our exploration of Resilient by John Eldridge.  Here’s a thought to chew on from his opening: “we live in no ordinary moment.”  How does that make you feel?  Do you reply incredulously with, “Yeah, obviously!” or are you more skeptical and think that we’re not really in a unique time?  Maybe somewhere in the middle? Or, are you just tired and that observation just makes you feel more tired?  I (Pastor Kyle) like to ask people how their soul is doing.  I sometimes get interesting responses because no one ever asks that, and people aren’t sure how to respond when asked! But really…how is your soul doing?  I bet it feels pretty worn out from the last three years.  You know, there’s an interesting connection to camels to be made there! Listen to see how and to start a journey that will hopefully result in you having the peace, hope and resiliency that Jesus says we can have!

What does it look like to take a crazy leap of faith and trust God?  Well, that’s why Abraham is one of the most well-known people in the Bible.  He leaves everything behind to follow a God he didn’t really know yet.  Abraham’s journey in Genesis takes up a lot of ink, and this Sunday we’ll begin our journey with him.  Be prepared though.  Even though we know him for great acts of faith, he was a pretty imperfect guy…not everything in his life should be emulated! Join us this Sunday for a look at this fascinating person of faith.

Genesis 11:1-9 tells the story of the Tower of Babel. It’s perhaps one of the clearest displays of human arrogance we have in the early chapters of our Bible.  They wanted to build something on par with the heavens to “make a name for themselves,” so they could control their destiny and not be “scattered throughout the earth.” There’s something very, very human there though.  We all, in some way, want to make a name for ourselves and control our own destiny.  We don’t want to be at the mercy of outside forces, do we?  In Babel, once again the sin of wanting to be like God rears its ugly head.  Compare this story to Adam and Eve (ch 3) and the “sons of God” (Gen 6). But God came down to see the city and the tower and ended their plans of self-promotion.  In the end, the name they made for themselves is “Babel,” or “confused” and “muddled!”  Join us Sunday for a good heart check on how we view our relationship with God.

Genesis 9 follows the story of Noah and the Great Flood and the immediate aftermath. It highlights the covenant God establishes with Noah, famously symbolized by a rainbow, where God promises He’ll never destroy the world with a flood again. The chapter also sees God reaffirming some pretty vital information for the humans responsible for starting over after everything was destroyed.  We also see more of God’s divine mercy and the importance human responsibility.  Consider this: if you were going to start humanity all over again…what kinds of things would you tell the people responsible for carrying out your plan of restoration?

One of the most prominent themes in Genesis 8 is God's faithfulness to his promises. Despite the wickedness and corruption of humanity, God chose to spare Noah and his family, and the animals, from the flood. After the flood, God made a covenant (agreement) with Noah, promising never again to destroy the earth with a flood. He even gave him an enduring sign: the rainbow. This covenant is a symbol of God's faithfulness to his people, despite their sin and unfaithfulness. Also, think about the theme of renewal and restoration. The flood waters, while destructive, also served as a means of cleansing and renewing the earth. After the flood, God gave Noah and his family a new beginning, with the responsibility to care for the earth and to be fruitful and multiply. This theme of renewal and restoration is seen throughout the Bible, finding its true fulfillment in the coming of Jesus Christ, who offers renewal and restoration to all who believe in him.
