Our Father

When you think of God, what word comes to mind? Holy? Powerful? Creator? Love? Maybe harsh or unfair? Or…what about Father? Here's another intriguing question: Are we all God's children? Or is there something unique in a Christian's relationship with God because of Christ? Regardless of what we think about those questions, defining God as Father brings a whole other set of considerations, doesn't it? If God is our Father, we must ask what "father" means to us, which can be a loaded question. For some, our earthy dads have been a great reflection of our heavenly Father. For others, not so much. Watch for a great discussion on what it really means to have God as Father!

Beyond Friendship

Will God Really Give You More Than You Can Handle? [Genesis 4.8]

"God will never give me more than I can handle." Have you ever said those words? Or have you just believed them even if you haven't said them out loud? These phrases get passed down to us, becoming part of our thinking…without even really thinking about it. Here's my beef with that saying: (2 actually) First, that idea is nowhere in Scripture. Quite the opposite. Second, what happens when God does give you more than you can handle? Will that wreck your faith in him? Will it make you angry? What if he asks for more than you're willing to give? What do we do then? Join us for some encouragement and clarification on this challenging topic!

Finding God in the Wilderness [Genesis 4.7]

Have you ever been hurt by someone who calls themselves a Christian? I mean…really hurt? Or have you ever experienced life throwing every difficult circumstance imaginable at you? How did you handle it? Where did you turn? Did it drive you out into the spiritual wilderness? Did God meet you there? Here's a more complicated question: Do you think God allowed it to happen to bring you out into the wilderness with him? Would your heart and soul be open to that? What might God say to us when we're out in the wilderness if we were to look for him? Would he care for us? Would he offer us answers or healing? We'll wrestle with these ideas and questions in Genesis 21.

Faith Over Fear [Genesis 4.6]

God Can Redeem Your Family History [Genesis 4.5]

How do you feel about your family history? Any skeletons in the closet? Are there bad choices, addictions, or abuse back there? Is anything embarrassing or hurtful in your family's past? What do we do with that stuff? In Genesis 19:30-38, a bewildering scene unfolds as Lot and his daughters find themselves in the aftermath of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Fearing the extinction of their family line, his daughters resort to drastic measures to ensure their future, resulting in a profoundly unsettling series of events. Amid their (gross) choices, there is a profound truth: even in brokenness and confusion, God's redemptive power can illuminate the darkest corners of our family histories, offering hope and renewal instead of despair. With God, we know we don't need to be victims of our family's history because He can bring good out of even the most troubling situations.
