Have you ever thought about what it looks like for you to trust God so much that it defines who you are?  As in, every area of your life is colored by your relationship with God. So many people are trying to figure out who they are and struggling to find any meaningful identity beyond temporary markers.  In Genesis 17, we see God redefining Abram and Sarai when he gives them new names.  This is a significant act and one I think has parallels to you today!

We jump back into Genesis after taking a break for the Easter season. Remember, Genesis is one of the most fascinating pieces of literature ever written and inside of it are people, places, and ideas that have shaped human history for thousands of years! So, to help us all catch up and get on the same page, we’re going to take a flyover journey through what we’ve already covered in Genesis 1-16. Like we’ve said all along, if you understand Genesis, you’ll better understand the Bible (and God). So, join us this Sunday as we jump back into this amazing book of the Bible!

Tuesday Apr 02, 2024

This is the night that changed everything.  The most important three days in human history were taking place.  Jesus would go to the cross, as was predicted ahead of time, “to give his life as a ransom for many.”  Those fateful words were spoken by Jesus in Matthew 20 to make clear what his mission was.  However, the disciples struggled to understand the role their Messiah was here to play.  What Jesus came to accomplish was laid out in Isaiah 53, 700 years before he came to earth.  What was about to happen to him was inconceivable to his disciples, who thought he was their conquering military King!  But Jesus was here to die a horrific death.  As a matter of fact, the pain of crucifixion was so intense that it gave its name to extreme agony: “excruciating,” which derives from Latin words meaning "the pain one experiences while being crucified."

The Hope Easter Sunday Brings

Tuesday Apr 02, 2024

Tuesday Apr 02, 2024

Hope.  When you read that or hear it, what do you think of?  Is it silly?  Useless?  Something to cling to?  Really, think about it: Hope.  In the world we live, it can be hard to have hope.  There are wars and rumors of wars. There is so much division and open hatred in our country.  To many people, it feels like we’ve got a rigged and broken democracy in America.  Families are falling apart.  Many have lost faith in major institutions like schools, the police, churches, the government and even the entire health care system.  People are becoming cynical and losing hope at alarming levels and this is pushing them more and more to drugs and alcohol. All of this is leading to depression, anxiety, and suicide rising at alarming levels.  So, what comes to mind when you think about hope?  We’ll explore how being hopeful isn’t hopeless when you put your hope in the right One.

Tuesday Mar 26, 2024

In this episode, we dive into Tuesday of Jesus' last week on earth, a pivotal day filled with intense interactions and profound teachings. We see Jesus challenged by the Jewish religious leaders, who seek to trap him with questions about the Law. However, Jesus responds with a profound answer that encapsulates his ministry and the essence of the Law itself: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Love your neighbor as yourself." This, he says, is the greatest commandment, summing up the entire Law and the Prophets.
This teaching underscores the core of Christian life—to love God and others. Jesus emphasizes that genuine love is the foundation of all actions and attitudes, calling out hypocrisy among religious leaders and teaching about the end times. He warns of persecution and hardships to come but urges his followers not to be alarmed, for he is still in control.
As we reflect on Jesus' words in the context of his impending crucifixion, we are challenged to examine our own lives and priorities. Join us tomorrow as we explore Wednesday of Jesus' final week, a day that sets the stage for the events leading to his arrest and crucifixion.

Monday Mar 25, 2024

Why was Jesus such a lightning rod everywhere he went?  He was just a homeless, itinerant preacher that did some miracles, right?  Plus, for the most part he seemed to confuse people. But everywhere he went, he stirred people up and drew crowds of sometimes thousands of people. Real tension was building around this man that some were saying was the Messiah.  The Jewish religious leaders were sick of it and ready to have Jesus killed. This Sunday we’ll see Jesus take all this head on as he rides into Jerusalem for his final week on earth. This is what the whole Bible was building up to.  Today begins the week of our deliverance and salvation!
